SNOWFALL
Wandering the sand roads in the middle of Michigan is always rewarding, since this area is an Amish community and every visit is a form of time travel, going back 150 years. Each farm has two kinds of horses: the massive Belgians bred to haul the plow and freight wagons, and the more svelte Standardbred or American Saddlebred, which are trained to pull buggies. These are are the latter, but here they are enjoying a day off in a snowy pasture, where they feed on corn left over from the harvest, as well as other plants. When I came upon these horses, I loved the way they visually fit together almost like puzzle pieces.
